Lab Testing Prep Before Your Physical Exam

Before Your Physical Exam Visit

If your physician has notified you that he/she has ordered fasting laboratory testing, these blood tests can be done a few days before your appointment so you can discuss the results at your visit. If you choose not to have your bloodwork before your visit or you have not been notified by your physician that pre-visit lab work has been ordered, you can have your lab testing done on the day of your appointment.

-Preparing for your lab/blood testing:
Continue taking ALL of your prescription medications.

Stop taking all vitamins, dietary and nutritional supplements 48 hours in advance.

If you currently take Biotin, stop 1 week prior to your blood test.

-Fasting Instructions for your Lab/Blood Testing:
If you have a morning appointment, please do not eat or drink after midnight the night before with the exception of water, black tea, black coffee, and your prescription medication.

If you have an afternoon appointment, please do not eat or drink for 6-8 hours in advance with the exception of water, black tea, black coffee, and your prescription medication.
