Elective Procedures and Testing

Elective Procedures Require COVID Testing

For your protection, and in compliance with regulatory requirements, all patients undergoing the following MUST be screened for COVID-19 5 days prior to their procedure or surgery:

  • any procedure or surgery with anesthesia;
  • MRI with sedation or other procedure with sedation;
  • cardiac exercise stress testing;
  • pulmonary function testing;
  • spirometry.

For office and exam room visits, CareMount Medical maintains standards of care specifically targeted to reduce the risk of COVID-19 so no testing is required.

How do I get tested for COVID-19 prior to my procedure?

CareMount Medical provides COVID-19 testing at all of our laboratory sites.  Check our pre-procedure testing schedule and lab hours below.

What type of test will I have?

You will have a COVID-19 Nasal Swab test.  You will administer the test yourself under the direction of a lab technician.  The test is simple.  You will be asked to swab each nostril and then put the swab in a vial with your name printed on it, seal it and hand it over to the technician.

What happens if I test negative?

A negative test indicates that you do not have COVID-19 presently in your body.  Your procedure will be performed as scheduled.  If your test is negative you will not receive a call with your results. You will be required to sign a COVID-19 Risk Informed Consent prior to the procedure .

What happens if I test positive?

If you test positive, this indicates you currently have COVID-19.  You will receive a phone call from your provider’s office with the result.  Your procedure/surgery will be cancelled and you will be referred to your primary care physician for monitoring and treatment as needed. The COVID-19 test will be repeated 14 days after the initial positive test.

What happens if I don’t get tested prior to my procedure?

If you arrive for your procedure without being tested, or before a result has been received, we will be unable to perform the procedure.

What do I do after my COVID-19 test?

After your COVID-19 test, we recommend that you self-quarantine and limit physical interaction with others until the day of your procedure.  Maintain current social distancing recommendations including:

  • Follow preventative measures, i.e. face covering in public when social distancing is not possible;
  • Minimize trips away from the home as much as possible;
  • Inform the proceduralists or surgeon if there is any contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 or with a person with symptoms consistent with COVID-19;
  • Notify the office immediately if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

What happens if I feel unwell after being tested, before my procedure?

If after being tested and prior to your procedure you feel ill please notify us immediately.
