Morel, MD, MMM, FACP, Chief Physician Executive, has been named a recipient of Westfair Communications, Inc.’s 2020 Westchester County Doctors of Distinction Award. Dr. Morel was presented his award during the Westchester County Doctors of Distinction virtual awards reception, held on September 24th.

Dr. Morel joined CareMount Medical in 2017 as Deputy Chief Medical Officer. In January 2020, Dr. Morel was appointed as Chief Physician Executive. In this role, he is responsible for managing CareMount Medical’s physician operations across six counties in New York State, as well as group-wide initiatives. Dr. Morel’s main areas of focus are the strategic growth of CareMount Medical, day-to-day physician management, and population health. He also serves as the Medical Director of CareMount Health Solutions ACO, LLC, the group’s full-risk Medicare Next Generation Accountable Care Organization.

“I am truly honored to be recognized with one of the region’s coveted 2020 Westchester County Doctors of Distinction Awards – especially during today’s challenging times,” said Richard P. He plays a key role in developing and executing CareMount Medical’s clinical programs and processes to enable better care for patients – which means higher quality care at a lower cost. Specifically, Dr. Morel led the charge for the creation of CareMount Medical’s Care Management Team which partners with a network of 23 skilled nursing facilities to maintain an open flow of information between patients and their care team. Additionally, Dr. Morel established the lung cancer screening program at CareMount in January 2019 which has led to more than 1,300 cancer screenings to date.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Dr. Morel has played an important role in CareMount’s ongoing internal and external communications by working with CareMount’s Care Management Team to ensure that its most fragile patients do not forgo necessary care due to COVID-19 concerns. The Care Management Team, led by Dr. Morel, maintains making proactive phone calls to high-risk patients to ensure they have the medications they need and to check in on their wellbeing.

Dr. Morel is board certified in internal medicine. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. After receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, he completed his postgraduate training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He holds a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Prior to joining CareMount Medical, Dr. Morel was the Co-Medical Director and Vice President of WestMed Medical Group in Purchase, NY, where he was responsible for overseeing physicians across the group. From 1998 to 2008, he served as Medical Director for Columbia Presbyterian Riverdale.
