Chappaqua, New York—May 26, 2020—CareMount Medical, the largest independent multi-specialty medical group in New York State, recently appointed Lewis Kohl, DO, MBA, as Chief Safety Officer of CareMount Medical. As Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Kohl is responsible for managing clinical quality by creating and overseeing the implementation of safety measures throughout the organization. Dr. Kohl has worked for CareMount Medical since 2011, serving currently as its Chief Medical Information Officer and Senior Medical Director, and prior to that, as Associate Medical Director.
“Since joining CareMount Medical nearly ten years ago, Dr. Kohl quickly became a key member of our management team and a true leader within our organization,” said Scott D. Hayworth, MD, FACOG, President and CEO of CareMount Medical. “Dr. Kohl was the perfect candidate for this role due to his extensive background in public health, emergency and internal medicine, and healthcare administration,” added Hayworth.
As Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Kohl creates, implements, and oversees all safety policies in order to safeguard clinical quality across CareMount Medical’s more than 45 office locations. He works in tandem with clinical operations to synthesize and communicate protocols from New York State, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for actionable patient care plans and to ensure all offices are safe and sanitary. Dr. Kohl’s mission in this leadership role is to have patients seen by the right provider, at the right time, and through the right type of visit – whether that be via in-office, a trip to an urgent care center, or a virtual visit.
Additionally, Dr. Kohl has been serving as CareMount Medical’s spokesperson regarding the COVID-19 pandemic – both internally for employees, and externally as a source for media commentary. He is a “go to” resource for staff and providers during the pandemic regarding policies and procedures in this ever-changing landscape.
Dr. Kohl is board certified in both emergency medicine, internal medicine and clinical informatics. After graduating from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed his post-graduate training at Kings County Hospital/Downstate Medical Center in the role of Chief Resident of Internal Medicine. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare from George Washington University School of Business.
