CareMount ACO Earns 96.4% Quality Score for Care Delivered in National Medicare Health Care Transformation Program

In second year of operation, CareMount ACO physicians improve care and reduce costs

Chappaqua, New York—February 15, 2021CareMount Medical announced today its Medicare Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (Next Generation ACO), CareMount Health Solutions ACO, LLC, received a 96.4% quality score for the care it delivered to patients as part of a national Medicare health care transformation program, ranking in the top 14 among all health systems participating in 2019. CareMount ACO was one of only two Next Generation ACOs in New York State in 2019.

“CareMount’s health care professionals and staff continue to deliver high-quality and cost-effective patient care, as demonstrated by these latest performance scores from Medicare,” said Scott D. Hayworth, MD, FACOG, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of CareMount Health Solutions, LLC. “We have a long history of excellence in patient care and remain committed to making on-going improvements that drive an outstanding patient experience and superior ACO performance.”

CareMount Medical is a large multi-specialty medical group in New York State committed to building a best-in-class integrated care network that improves quality and clinical outcomes for its patients. CareMount Medical joined the CMS Next Generation ACO Model in 2018 under its managed care subsidiary, CareMount ACO, which serves over 30,000 patients under value-based care models. The ACO delivers care coordination services in close collaboration with more than 650 CareMount Medical primary care physicians, specialists and advanced practice professionals. The ACO also focuses on risk-based contracts in the Medicare Advantage program.

Next Generation ACOs are comprised of groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers who come together voluntarily to deliver coordinated, high-quality care to improve the patient’s experience and health while lowering overall health care costs. CMS assesses Next Generation ACOs annually based on overall quality of care measures and the ACOs’ ability to deliver high-value care outcomes, at lower costs, to participating Medicare beneficiaries.

ACOs that exceed quality and cost benchmarks are rewarded by sharing a portion of the cost savings generated, which allows ACOs to keep down costs and invest more in quality care. For the 2019 program year, CareMount Medical was able to generate $11.4 million in shared savings, which will go back into the practice to help manage costs and better serve patients.

“The result of shared savings generated from CareMount’s ACO further demonstrates our commitment to the delivery of patient-centered, high-quality care while driving down healthcare costs,” said Kevin J. Conroy, MS, chief financial officer and chief population health officer of CareMount Medical. “Since adopting the Next Generation ACO Model, we’ve built an advanced preferred provider network in the Hudson Valley and New York City and expanded our offerings to include Medicare Advantage contracts with leading payers. We look forward to ongoing success in 2020 and 2021.”

CareMount Medical participated as a Medicare Shared Savings Program Track 1 ACO starting in 2012 before advancing to the Next Generation ACO Model in 2018. For the Performance Year 2018, CareMount Health Solutions ACO, LLC generated $778,583 in shared savings. In 2018, CMS also awarded CareMount Health Solutions ACO, LLC a perfect score of 61 out of 61 points on its Initial Readiness Review (IRR), an assessment that CMS conducts for all ACOs entering the Next Generation ACO Model.
