Benefits of Robotic Surgery

By Carl F. Calica, MD FACS | Robotic Surgery, General Surgery

Rapidly emerging technology has revolutionized the practice of medicine.  The specialty of General Surgery is no exception.  With the advent of sophisticated new instruments and the development of newer, less invasive techniques surgeons are now able to safely perform complex operations that previously require large, painful incisions.  The benefits of minimally invasive surgery include: less pain, less scarring, less injury to tissue as well as a shorter hospital stay and recovery.  These are able to be achieved with a high degree of accuracy and safety.

Minimally invasive surgery has become the standard of care for many operations since it’s inception in the early 1990’s.  With the addition of the daVinci Robotic Surgical System surgeons are now able to perform the most complex procedures with even better vision and in some cases with only one incision.  Cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal), colon (large intestine) resection as well as repair of incisional, ventral and hiatal hernias are all able to be accomplished safely with minimal downtime.

CareMount surgeons are the pioneers in these minimally invasive techniques in the Hudson Valley.  Years of minimally invasive surgical experience coupled with excellent patient outcomes make us the area’s leaders in this rapidly expanding new surgical field.
