Dr. Kathy Purvis, a Wisconsin native, graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1990. During medical school, Dr. Purvis was awarded the J.C. Peterson Pediatric Award for the most outstanding performance in her pediatric rotations. She then continued her pediatric education at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and completed her training in 1993. Dr Purvis won the prestigious Willis A. Wingert Award at the annual American Academy of Pediatrics meeting for a research project conducted during her residency.
Dr. Purvis began her career at the busy Sinai Samaritan Pediatric Group, providing health care for an underserved patient population in the central city of Milwaukee. This was followed by a position at Covenant/Quad Family Care Center. At Covenant/Quad Dr. Purvis developed a corporate lactation program that provided breastfeeding support for the working breastfeeding mother employed at Quad Graphics. This program included mandatory pumping breaks, clean pumping rooms and paid supplies for breastmilk expression.
Dr. Purvis and her family moved to the New York area and she began working at her current position in 2002, now at the Bedford Hills location. Also in 2002, Dr. Purvis became a board certified lactation consultant to better support the breastfeeding needs of her patients and families.
A lifelong commitment to learning and an interest in alternative healing practices has led Dr. Purvis to study and complete the well regarded two year Integrative Medicine fellowship with Dr. Weil in 2015.
Dr. Purvis is married to her “high school sweetheart” and the mother of three grown children. Two children have followed her into the medical field and are both physicians. Dr. Purvis is also a proud “Nana” to three grandchildren. Her interests include crossword puzzles, cooking using organic whole foods and LONG walks.
Dr. Purvis strives to develop partnerships with her patients and their parents. Long term relationships with families is Dr. Purvis favorite part of her pediatric practice. In addition, Dr. Purvis believes that parenting can be the most challenging, yet rewarding “job” of our lives. She feels the pediatrician has a unique role to play in helping families with these challenges. She works hard to instill both the confidence and skills needed to create successful families.
